“I don’t consider myself a fancy artist. I don’t have a big art studio to paint out of. I purposely paint out of my bedroom for a couple reasons,” says artist Naomi Brown. “I’m a mom first, so my girls know where to find me. I like to wake up and see my paintings sitting there reminding me that I need to paint and finish them.” The biggest part of being an artist, she says, is the discipline in the drive. Another important aspect is feeling an emotional connection or, as the artist says, the “emotional high” when she paints her subjects. “This feeling kicks the drive into action for me. When you have both an emotional high and the drive, you then can become passionate about what you’re painting. It’s the best feeling as an artist when you have all of these key elements,” says Brown. “This is when you can produce some of your best work. I am grateful that I get to do something I love each day. I love to paint to make people happy.” Brown’s artwork will be featured in the upcoming SLOPOKE 2021 from September 24 to 26.
